Karoon Prison authorities in Ahwaz say jailed journalist Abolfazl Abedini is on the verge of being released.
On Tuesday, the Karoon authorities announced that Abedini will soon be given a furlough, according to Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA).
Abedini was arrested in March of 2010 and was first held in Evin Prison, before being transferred to Karoon Prison.
He was sentenced to 12 years in jail for "propaganda against the regime" by giving interviews to media in alleged enemy countries.
This will be Abedini’s first furlough since his arrest.
