Iranians write to demand release of opposition leaders
Karroubi, Rahnavard, Mousavi

In a letter, 1,667 Iranian citizens have demanded the release of MirHosein Mousavi, Mehdi Karroubi and Zahra Rahnavard, the three opposition leaders who are under house arrest.

A report by Kaleme says the letter was also signed by dozens of journalists, political activists, artists and former political prisoners.

The letter, which is addressed to the National Security Council and the Ministry of Justice, says: "The daughters of Mousavi and Rahnavard were subjected to physical attacks and slanders while visiting their parents."

The Ministry of Information has claimed in response that it was actually the daughters who attacked its agents.

While expressing complaints and utter disgust about such violent confrontations, the letter's signatories further request that the three leaders receive an apology and that the perpetrators are brought to justice.

The three leaders have been under house arrest for 1,000 days.
