Workers laid off from the Zagros Steel Factory have been paid three months of their back pay following persistent protests.
That’s according to Khaled Naderi, one of about 170 workers who had once again come to Tehran this week to persist in their protests. ILNA reports that the Zagros Steel workers had staged demonstrations over three days in front of Parliament and the labour ministry.
The report adds that last night, following discussions with labour ministry officials, the past-due wages for three months and 18 days were deposited in the workers’ accounts.
Naderi reports that the workers were paid anywhere between 1.6 to 2 million rials, depending on which wage group they were in.
Naderi added that the workers will persist in their demands to return to work and get their remaining back pay and stressed that if the management does not fulfill its commitments, protests will continue.
