The head of blood services for Tehran province announced on Wednesday that the department’s stores are dangerously low and it currently has only a two-day supply of necessary blood transfusions for patients.
Khorasan Province announced a similar concern over low blood and plasma banks.
IRNA reports that Tehran Blood Bank official Ghassem Eslami claimed that it’s normal to have a seven-day supply of blood transfusions, and a decline in blood donations has brought the system to a critical point.
Eslami added that Tehran City Council has promised to assist the blood banks by setting up more blood donations stations but it has not yet done so.
Khorasan officials claim the beginning of the cold season is one of the factors that directly leads to fewer donors visiting blood collection stations.
