Marzieh Afkham, spokesperson for the Iranian foreign ministry, has announced that billboards in Tehran referring to “U.S. Government Honesty” were illegal.
Afkham said: “Tehran City Hall and officials have looked into the matter and reported that the billboards were put up illegally, and they had not acquired the necessary permits.”
The billboards went up a few days after the new round of nuclear talks commenced between the Iranian delegation and the 5+1 representatives. The move was seen as an attempt by Islamic Republic hardliners to sabotage the talks by questioning U.S. credibility.
The billboards have now been taken down from all across the city.
