A spokeswoman for Iran’s foreign ministry has announced that Iran and Britain will appoint new charges d’affaires within the next eight days and their respective embassies will be re-opened.
Marzieh Afkham reported on Tuesday October 22 that appointing the charges d’affaires does not require the same procedures as appointing ambassadors, because the charges d’affaires will not permanently reside in the host country, and as soon as they are appointed, the embassies will become active.
The foreign ministry spokesman added that Iran and Canada have agreed to have Oman represent Iran’s interests in Canada, and Italy will represent Canadian interests in Iran.
She also announced that Lakhdar Brahimi, the UN envoy to Syria, will travel to Iran next Saturday to discuss the Syrian crisis with Islamic Republic officials.
