The Iranian Parliament’s urban development commission has approved a proposal to move the political capital of the country from Tehran.
The Iran News Network reports that Ahsan Alavar, a member of the commission, has announced that the transfer of the political capital from Tehran is now under serious consideration, and details of this plan, including the appropriate new location, will be determined in the new year.
Alavi added the commission has indicated its general approval of the plan.
He said the move is in response to Tehran’s growing population and “the need to separate political matters from this mega city.”
