As nuclear talks between Iran and the six world powers get underway, a spokesman for Catherine Ashton, the EU foreign policy chief, announced on the sidelines that Iran has presented a new proposal.
The German News Agency reports that on Tuesday, Michael Mann reported that Iran’s new proposal is being examined but he did not discuss any of its details.
Mann was also reported as saying that sanctions may be eased or even removed should Tehran choose to affect the new changes in its proposal.
Interfax also reports that the new Iranian proposal is completely new and not at all similar to proposals that have gone before it.
Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif was quoted as saying upon his arrival in Geneva that “with a balanced approach, it is possible to remove the obstacles that have been created in the past years” and reach a point where the world will feel confident about Iran’s nuclear goals and Iran’s nuclear rights will be respected.
Nuclear talks between Iran and the world powers will continue today and tomorrow, October 15 and 16 in Geneva.
