High-profile journalist gets temporary leave from prison
Bahman Ahmadi Amouyi

Prominent jailed journalist Bahman Ahmadi Amouyi has been given temporary leave from Rejai Shahr Prison.

The Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA) reports that Ahmadi Amouyi, who is serving a sentence of five and a half years, was released on Wednesday October 9.

Ahmadi Amouyi was arrested in June of 2009 with his wife, Jila Bani Yaghoub, another well-known journalist. Many journalists were arrested in the aftermath of the controversial 2009 presidential election result, which was challenged by allegations of vote fraud and mass protests.

Bahmad Ahmadi Amouyi was released in March of this year and then called back to jail just before the presidential election in June.

Many political prisoners have been released since reformist president Hassan Rohani was elected with strong popular support in June of this year.
