Twitter official tweets Rohani about web access in Iran
Jack Dorsey

tJack Dorsey, Twitter chairman and CEO, has publicly questioned Iranian President Hassan Rohani over the blocking of the Twitter website in Iran.

Jack Dorsey sent a tweet addressed to Hassan Rohani, saying: “Good evening, President. Are citizens of Iran able to read your tweets?”

The Iranian president responded, saying: “As I told Christiane Amanpour, my efforts are geared to ensuring my people will comfortably be able to access all information globally as is their right.”

The Iranian government places widespread restrictions on internet access for Iranian web users, and Twitter is one of many websites that can only be accessed through the use of proxies.

The new president, Hassan Rohani, was elected on a platform of moderation and greater social liberties, but he faces the hard task of negotiating tactfully with an ultraconservative establishment to deliver his promised changes.
