Akbar Torkan, the head of the Supreme Council for the Affairs of Iranians Aboard, has announced that President Rohani has given an order to examine the establishment of direct flights between Iran and the United States.
The Mehr News Agency reports that Torkan quoted the president about the need to increase services to all Iranians abroad, “including Iranian Jews, Christians, Zoroastrians and Muslims.”
Torkan said: “In terms of addressing the travel difficulties of our compatriots living in the U.S., the president has issued an order for us to look into the possibility of establishing direct flights between Iran and the United States.”
There have been no direct flights between Iran and the United States since November of 1979.
