Prisoners have thwarted attempts by officials at Rejai Shahr Prison in Karaj to transfer 26 condemned Sunnis to Ghezel Hessar Prison.
A political prisoner informed the Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA): “The officials first announced that Kaveh Veisi and Mokhtar Rahimi were to be transferred. We resisted them, and they said they have a list of 26 prisoners that are to be transferred by order of judge Maqiseh. They threatened force but finally yielded.”
The report adds that prisoners were concerned that their condemned cellmates were being transferred so that they could be executed.
Zahedan’s Friday Mass Imam, Senior Sunni leader Mowlavi Abdolhamid, recently appealed to the Iranian Supreme Leader to commute the death sentences of the Sunni inmates in Rejai Shahr Prison so their executions could not be exploited to create sectarian divisions in the country.
