Unofficial reports from Iran indicate the new head of the Supreme National Security Council has met with Iranian opposition leader MirHosein Mousavi.
Mousavi has been under house arrest with his wife Zahra Rahnavard since February of 2010. Mehdi Karroubi, another opposition leader and challenger of the 2009 election results, has also been under house arrest since then.
Khordad News reports that Ali Shamkhani met with Mousavi last week, but no details have been released about the meeting.
The case of the three opposition leaders has recently been forwarded to the Supreme National Security Council. Mousavi, Rahnavard and Karroubi have been under house arrest without any official charges laid against them, and that has been cause for widespread criticism by many senior figures even within the establishment.
The Khordad News website writes that the meeting raises hope that “it might be a step toward culminating this case.”
