Iran's House of Cinema was finally opened today, September 12, in the presence of numerous members of the Iranian film community.
The new head of the House of Cinema, Hojatollah Ayyoubi, announced that the film centre was reopened by order of the new minister of culture, Ali Jannati, adding that: "House of Cinema has never been dissolved and it had only been shut down by the ministry of guidance,"
He stressed that the House of Cinema is a highly beneficial body for the film community, acting as a "good advocate bringing together various groups assisting in the coordination of projects."
The closure of the House of Cinema had been contested by many prominent figures in the Iranian film community and had become a controversial issue in the final days of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad''s administration.
The House of Cinema is an independent body representing 5,000 members of the Iranian film community.
