Beheshti lawyer to fight “involuntary” manslaughter charge
Sattar Beheshti

Close to a year after jailed blogger Sattar Beheshti died in custody, the accused in the case has been charged with involuntary manslaughter.

The website Tasnim reports that Giti Pourfazel, the Beheshti family’s attorney, announced on Friday August 30 that she had just found out about the charge and is planning to protest the matter because the family has been pushing for voluntary manslaughter.

Pourfazel explained that the case has been forwarded to court in order to resolve the outstanding issues before an indictment is issued.

Sattar Beheshti, a jailed blogger, was pronounced dead five days after his arrest by the Cyber Police in Tehran. His cellmates’ testimony and other evidence indicate that he was tortured and died from injuries sustained during questioning.
