Iran has appointed a new envoy to the International Atomic Energy Agency, ending the eight-year mission of Ali Asghar Soltaneih.
Reza Najafi was appointed by the new Iranian administration to represent Iran at the UN nuclear watchdog. Najafi has served as head of Political and International Affairs as well as head of Disarmament and International Security at the foreign ministry.
Najafi was appointed by Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and is one of the first replacements among the top ranks of international representatives by the new administration.
Najafi will serve as Iran’s ambassador to the IAEA in Vienna. Ali Asghar Soltanieh, who served in this position for eight years, was appointed by Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
