The family of opposition leader Mehdi Karroubi has told Saham News that for the first time since the leader was put under house arrest, his family has been provided with his medical file.
In an interview with Fatemeh Karroubi on August 15, Saham News writes that the security forces have given permission for Mehdi Karroubi’s medical treatments to continue “at the place of his arrest.”
Karroubi was reportedly hospitalized recently to undergo a series of heart treatments.
The Karroubi family thanks the medical team that has made every effort to provide him with consistent medical care.
The 75-year-old opposition leader has been under house arrest since February 2011 for challenging the outcome of the 2009 presidential election with allegations of vote fraud.
He was first held under house arrest in his apartment along with his wife. He was later moved to a small unit where he is being held alone.
His family is given only a few restricted chances to visit him and they report that despite the pressures on him, his morale remain high.
