Prominent reformist figure Mohammadreza Aref announced today, August 2, that he will not be a member of the new president’s cabinet but he will collaborate with the new administration.
Mohammadreza Aref was the only other reformist candidate in the June presidential election, and in the final stages of the campaign he stopped running and threw his support behind Hassan Rohani, who went on to victory.
Aref told ILNA that the cabinet has already been elected, and no more proposals are being taken.
He added that he has no knowledge of the president-elect being pressured by certain groups in his choice of cabinet members.
Aref said: “Today we need to allow the new government to establish itself based on its own policies in order to carry out its proposed plans.” He added that he will be there to assist the new president in every way possible.
