Detained Iranian diplomat Bagher Asadi was released from Evin Prison in Tehran on Sunday July 14.
Asadi’s lawyer told ISNA that his client has been released on bail. The report indicates that the Tehran Prosecutor had previously announced that the investigations into Asadi’s case had reached an end.
Islamic Republic authorities arrested Asadi in May, and the news of his arrest was reported by Reuters.
Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi later confirmed the arrest, adding however that Bagher Asadi is a “veteran diplomat of excellent reputation” and that his arrest must be “a mere misunderstanding.”
Asadi is known to be close to reformist factions in Iran and hewas detained atthe airport upon his return from Istanbul.
There have been no conclusive reports about the reason for Bagher Asadi’s arrest.
