Iran’s volleyball team earned its second victory against Cuba when the two teams met for a second time in Havana on Sunday July 7; however, the points achieved by the top teams in Pool B already reveal that Iran has no chance to proceed to the next level.
Iran defeated Cuba in three consecutive sets and gained five points in the two meetings with Cuba.
Iran chalked up four victories in this year’s World League games, having earlier beaten Italy and Serbia.
With eight games and 12 points, Iran is fifth in Pool B whereas Italy and Russia are tied for first with 19 points.
Russia, however, has already played 10 games, and Germany, trailing behind with 14 points in eight games, still has a chance to proceed to the next level. Italy has gained 19 points in nine games.
Iran is ranked 14th by the Federation of International Volleyball (FIVB). Brazil, Russia, Italy, Poland and the U.S. are respectively ranked in the first five positions.
