A spokesman for the Iranian Foreign Ministry has announced that the actual members of Hassan Rohani’s nuclear negotiating team have not been chosen yet by the president-elect, and reports to the contrary have been a misinterpretation of the foreign minister’s statement.
Abbas Araghchi told reporters today that what the foreign minister had indicated was the formation of various teams to take over the transfer of responsibilities by the future administration but not specifically one for nuclear negotiation.
Ali Akbar Salehi said yesterday that Hassan Rohani will be responsible for the next nuclear talks with the world powers, adding that the ministry will collaborate with the team appointed by the president-elect.
Rohani will officially take over the administration in early August. The president has the responsibility to appoint the head of the Supreme Council of National Security, but according to custom, many top roles such as minister of intelligence, minister of culture and guidance and head of the Supreme Council for National Security are chosen with input from the Supreme Leader.
