According to ISNA, the head of Tehran prisons says that Mostafa Tajzadeh, a prominent jailed reformist figure, has cast his ballot in Evin Prison.
Mostaf Tajzadeh, who had raised the possibility of boycotting the elections after the disqualification of Ayatollah Hashemi Rafsanjani, announced this week that he would vote for reformist candidate Hassan Rohani.
ISNA reports that Tajzadeh “voted together with other political prisoners in Evin Prison.”
Mohsen Mirdamadi, another political prisoner and the head of the Islamic Iran Participation Front, had also announced his support for Hassan Rohani.
Mirdamadi had been quoted as saying: “Through widespread participation in the elections and by voting for Hassan Rohani, the will of the majority of reformists has to be demonstrated to those who are trying to engineer the popular vote.”
The last presidential election was marred by allegations of vote fraud, and reformists accused the establishment of engineering the result to suit the conservative factions.
