Berenice Bejo, who plays the lead role in Iranian director Asghar Farhadi’s latest film, “The Past”, has won the prize for best actress at the Cannes Film Festival.
The winners were announced on Sunday night, May 26, at the 66th Cannes Festival ceremony.
Argentine-born Bejo, who won Oscar and Golden Globe nominations last year for her performance in “The Artist”, expressed surprise at winning the prize, saying: “I was not expecting this.”
The Cannes jury awarded the best actor award to 76-year-old Bruce Dern for his role in Alexander Payne’s “Nebraska”.
Abdellatif Kechiche’s "La Vie d'Adele – Chapitre 1 & 2" (Blue is the Warmest Colour) won the coveted Palme d’Or for the best film at the Cannes festival this year.
