The International Campaign for Human Rights in Iran reports that Mostafa Mesri, an Iranian-Kurd political prisoner, has begun a hunger strike, sewing his lips together to protest the refusal of the Oroumiyeh Central Prison to transfer him to Naghadeh prison.
Mesri, 26, began his hunger strike on Sunday May 19, according to the report, and has since been transferred to solitary and denied visits or any contact with his family.
Mesri has reportedly gone on hunger strikes two other times to make the same demand and ended his strikes after officials made positive promises. However, so far they have not lived up to their promises.
Mesri has been sentenced to three and a half years for acting against national security and has already served close to two years of his sentence.
