The Geophysics Institute of Tehran University reports that an earthquake measuring five on the Richter scale has hit Jask Port in the southern province of Hormozgan.
The earthquake reportedly struck the port at 12:31 PM at a depth of 10 kilometres.
The U.S. Seismic Centre registered the quake at 4.9 on the Richter scale at a depth of 26 kilometres.
IRNA reports that officials have headed to the region to assess the damage. Current reports indicate that a number of residential homes have suffered cracks and other damage.
So far no fatalities have been reported in connection with the Jask earthquake.
