The Iranian Foreign Ministry has announced that Mojtaba Atarodi, an Iranian professor who was arrested by U.S. authorities, has been released following the ministry’s continued efforts.
Atarodi, a faculty member of Iran’s Sanati Sharif University, travelled to the U.S. in December of 2011 and was arrested for allegedly making an illegal purchase of advanced laboratory equipment.
Reuters announced that Mojtaba Atarodi arrived at the Muscat airport in Oman today, April 26.
Fars News Agency reports that the Iranian academic will return to Iran on Saturday.
Ramin Mehmanparast, a spokesman for Iran’s Foreign Ministry, extended Iran’s thanks to all “friendly countries and figures” that mediated the release of the Iranian national.
