The head of Environmental Protection for Kohgiloyeh and Boyerahmad Province has announced that two park guards were fired on by people hunting illegally in the Dena National Park.
The report indicates that four individuals arrived by vehicle at the park at 4AM on Monday April 22 and, once they were spotted by the National Park officials, the intruders began firing on the guards.
The two park officers are now in hospital being treated for gunshot wounds. While three of the suspects escaped, the driver of the vehicle was arrested.
Provincial parks have been targeted by poachers and illegal hunters on several occasions in recent years, raising concern for the well-being of wildlife in these parks.
