More quakes felt in six Iranian provinces

Earthquakes measuring between 3 and 5 on the Richter scale have rocked six Iranian provinces since 11 PM last night, April 19, stretching into the early hours of today, Saturday.

IRNA reports that the largest of these quakes happened at 2:11 AM in the city of Ahl in the central province of Fars. It was measured at a magnitude of 5.

Isfahan, Kerman, Gilan, Ardebil and Bushehr were the other provinces that experienced earthquakes.

In Kerman, in southern Iran, the city of Shahdad was rocked by an earthquake measured at 3. The quake in the cities of Kaki and Abdan in the southwestern province of Bushehr registered at 4.1 on the Richter scale, as did a quake in Habibabad in Isfahan province.

The northern province of Glan also reportedly experienced an earthquake today, as did Givi, a city in the northwestern province of Ardebil.

So far, reports have not indicated any fatalities or major damage from these events.

Iran has been rocked by several earthquakes in the past week. The strongest one, which measured 7.8 on the Richter scale, struck in the southeastern province of Sistan-Baluchistan on April 15. While only one fatality was reported in Iran, more than 30 people died in neighbouring Pakistan as a result of this earthquake.
