An earthquake measuring 5.2 on the Richter scale hit northwestern Iran today, April 18, in the province of Eastern Azerbaijan.
ISNA reports that the quake hit at 3 PM at a depth of 12 KM under Tasooj city, and the head of emergency services announced that the quake left only two people injured with superficial wounds.
This is the third area in Iran to be hit with an earthquake in the past week. Last summer, an earthquake in this province left more than 300 people dead and thousands wounded.
The 7.8 Richter earthquake that hit Bushehr Province has also triggered grave concern over possible damage to the nuclear power plant located there and potential radioactive leakage.
