More than 200 activists and journalists have issued a statement calling for the release of Massoud and Khosro Kordpour, two journalists being detained in Kurdistan Province.
The statement denounces the persecution of civil activists in Kurdistan and expresses grave concern about the civil rights violations that took place in what they call the Kordpours’ unjustified arrests.
Masood and Khosro Kordpour were arrested in March by security forces in Mahabad and, after three weeks, they were transferred to the intelligence office detention centre in Oroumiyeh. While no charges have been laid, their arrest warrants have been renewed to allow continued investigations and incarceration.
The statement calls for the immediate release of the two brothers and emphasizes that their continued arrest is in violation of state laws.
