Jafar Panahi’s film “Closed Curtain” has won the Berlin Film Festival Silver Bear award for best screenplay.
Jafar Panahi, a prominent Iranian filmmaker, is forbidden to make films in Iran and shot this film while under house arrest in Tehran. His colleague and collaborator, Kambuzia Partovi, received the prize in Berlin on his behalf.
Iranian authorities ignored requests by Berlin festival officials to allow Panahi to participate in the Berlinale.
Calin Peter Netzer's “Child’s Pose” (Romania) won Berlinale’s Golden Bear for best picture and a U.S. film, David Gordon Green’s “Prince Avalanche”, got the Solver Bear for best director.
The 63rd Berlinale capped off its 10 days of film screenings on Saturday night.
