Fazel Larijani wants Ahmadinejad, Mortazavi prosecuted
Fazel Larijani

Fazel Larijani has called on the Tehran Prosecutor to lay charges against President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and Saeed Mortazavi, the head of the Social Security Fund, for defamation and slander.

The Fars News Agency published Larijani’s letter of Monday February 11, which accuses the president’s close aides of “security and financial crimes” and demands that the president allow the judiciary to begin proceedings against them.

Last week, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad turned the impeachment hearing of his labour minister in Parliament into an exposé of a video showing Fazel Larijani in conversation with Saeed Mortazavi, a close Ahmadinejad supporter. Based on the video, he accuses Fazel Larijani and his two brothers, who lead the judiciary and the legislative assembly, of corruption and abuse of power.

Fazel Larijani stresses that he has never been involved in any corruption schemes and is prepared to stand trial to prove his innocence.

The Ahmadinejad administration has been in constant dispute with the two Larijanis who lead the judicial and legislative branches of the government, and despite warnings from the Supreme Leader to stop publicizing their conflicts, the disputes have continued to escalate.
