New online videos cast suspicion on powerful family
Fazel Larijani

Hours after the arrest of Saeed Mortazavi, the notorious former Tehran prosecutor and the president’s recent appointee to the Social Security Fund, a number of video files were posted on YouTube showing Mortazavi and Fazel Larijani engaged in conversations that could be regarded as evidence of abuse of power and corruption on the part of the Larijani family.

The videos were posted anonymously on Tuesday Morning February 5.

Fazel Larijani is the brother of Ali Larijani, the head of Iran’s Parliament, and Sadegh Larijani, the head of the judiciary..

President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who has been consistently in dispute with both the judiciary and Parliament in recent years, showed some of these videos in Parliament yesterday, adding that he possesses 25 hours of recorded material of Fazel Larijani.

Fazel Lariajni has confirmed that he did indeed meet with Mortazavi but he went on to file suits against Ahmadinejad and Mortazavi.

Ali Larijani, the head of Parliament, has accused Mahmoud Ahmadinejad of acting like the mob.

Saeed Mortazavi was arrested on Monday night and taken to Evin Prison. Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has condemned the arrest as a “highly inappropriate action.”

He has gone on to accuse the Larijanis of running the judiciary as a “family organization” and claims the judiciary has arrested the “whistleblower” instead of arresting the “the violators.”

The Tehran prosecutor has not yet announced the charges for which Mortazavi has been arrested,

Mortazavi is a suspect in the torture and death of detainees at Kahrizak Prison in 2009 when he was Tehran Prosecutor. His appointment to the Social Security Fund by Mahmoud Ahmadinejad had become a target of harsh criticism by Parliament and triggered the impeachment of the Labour Minister.
