Prisoners write judiciary about exiled inmate
Abolfazl Ghadiyani

Thirty-six Iranian political prisoners have written an open letter to the head of the judiciary, Ayatollah Sadegh Larijani, to warn him about the health of Abolfazl Ghadiyani, another political prisoner who was recently exiled to Ghezel Hessar Prison.

Ghadiyani was transferred on January 16 after he issued a number of open letters criticizing the treatment of prisoners in jails and accusing the authorities of violating prisoner rights.

The letter issued by the 36 prisoners on Wednesday January 30 stresses that prison physicians have confirmed that Ghadiyani should be released due to his medical condition, as he cannot endure prison conditions.

Ghadiyani was arrested during the widespread round-up of reformist figures after the 2009 election.

The letter stressed that Ghadiyani’s life is in grave danger and urged the head of the judiciary to put an end to “arbitrary pressures and mistreatment” by prison authorities.

He was sentenced to one year in jail but after serving his sentence, he was given another three-year sentence for “insulting the leader.”
