Journalists arrested by order of new court

Reports from Tehran indicate that at least 10 journalists were arrested there on January 27 by security forces carrying arrest warrants from the newly established Court of Media and Culture.

The officials reportedly arrived at the offices of the Shargh, Bahar and Arman dailies as well as Asman magazine, where they confiscated reporter permits and mobiles and arrested at least 10 employees.

Etemad, Shargh, Bahar and Arman are among the independent newspapers in Iran that have been shut down by authorities on several occasions.

The detainees identified so far are Javad Daliri, Nasrin Takhayori, Sasan Aghayi, Motahareh Shafii, Nargess Jodaki, Pouria Alami, Pejman Mousavi, Emili Amrayi, Akbar Motakhabi and Saba Azarpeyk.

Earlier reports had also indicated that two other reporters, Milad Fadayi-Asl and Soleyman Mohammadi, were arrested on Saturday January 26, and so far there has been no official announcement regarding the charges against them.
