Another Facebook arrest carried out in Iran

Iranian police have arrested another Facebook member for publishing “indecent images and content on Facebook.”

The head of the Gilan Cyber Police told ISNA today: “In line with the policy to deal with offences against public decency, the cyber police have identified a page on Facebook where the owner had been posting indecent images and content.”

He added: “The address of the owner of this page, who had targeted the public morality by exploiting cyber space, was acquired and, after necessary warrants were obtained, he was arrested in Rasht in a surprise operation.”

The report indicates that the detainee has been transferred to prison pending his trial.

Sattar Beheshti, a blogger, was arrested on October 30 for anti-government views expressed on his personal blog and Facebook page. The following week he was pronounced dead by the authorities, and a probe into his death was launched after allegations that he died under torture by the cyber police created a public outrage in the media.

In recent months, several people have been arrested in Iran for their activities on Facebook.
