
Four people were killed and another 36 injured last night when a train travelling from Zahedan to Tehran derailed near Yazd.
IRNA cites Red Crescent officials who report that at 11:50 PM local time, the engine and two passenger wagons were derailed as the train was entering the Nazarabad Station in Yazd,
The train was travelling from the southeastern province of Sistan-Baluchistan to the capital.
According to the report on IRNA, the train was carrying 324 passengers, and three of the fatalities were railway employees. A 70-year-old woman was also reported killed in the accident.
While the injured have reportedly been transferred to Yazd hospital, the rest of the passengers were taken to Tehran on a different route.
Officials are now investigating the cause of the accident. ISNA reports that a railway official has said that the train was travelling on a temporary route that was set up during construction of a bridge.
