Ten people in Tehran and three in Shiraz were hanged on Wednesday morning, October 7, for drug offences.
The Tehran Prosecutor’s website reports that “hundreds of kilos of drugs” were discovered in possession of the 10 people that were executed today in the capital.
Meanwhile, three individuals were publicly hanged in Shiraz for heroin and opium trafficking.
Another 10 people were hanged on October 22 for similar charges.
Drug offences are punishable by death in Iran, and the UN rapporteur for Iran has called on the country to stop all executions, stressing that the death penalty is not an appropriate sentence for drug offences.
Only China has more annual executions than Iran.
