Iran accuses West of seeding public discontent

Western countries are trying to create “general discontent in Iran” by putting sanctions on medication and drugs, Iran’s Foreign Ministry says.

Spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast told the Mehr news agency: “Sanctions on medical drugs, which are against all accepted international laws, are aimed at putting our people under pressure and creating social and general discontent.”

Iran is facing widespread sanctions stemming from disputes over its nuclear program. The unilateral sanctions imposed on Iran by the U.S. and the EU have severely affected its economy and made a significant dent in its oil revenues.

“Medical drugs are an issue that concerns people’s lives and health, but the world arrogance, despite all its claims, has not even made an exemption in this case and will not allow Iran to get its medical needs,” Mehmanparast added.

UN chief Ban Ki-moon confirmed in an earlier report that the sanctions on Iran have created inflation, a rise in unemployment and difficulty in acquiring vital medical drugs.
