Iran slams Israeli threats

Iran is saying it reserves the right to respond to any attack with full force, after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called for the setting of a “red line” for Iran’s nuclear program.

Iran’s UN mission says Israel has made “baseless and absurd allegations against (its) exclusively peaceful nuclear program.”

Iran’s mission statement went on to add: “While the use, or threat of use, of force under any pretext is a grave violation of the principles of (the) UN Charter and international law, as well as the norms of international relations, the officials of the Israeli regime are so rude that on a daily basis they threaten countries in the region, particularly my country, (with) military attack.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran is strong enough to defend itself and reserves its full right to retaliate with full force against any attack,” the statement says.

Yesterday, Netanyahu told the U.N. assembly that Iran is one year away from a nuclear bomb and must face a red line.

The United States has rejected Netanyahu’s insistence on setting red lines for Iran, saying there is still room to continue on the diplomatic path.

Iran says it is not interested in nuclear weapons and that its nuclear program is peaceful.

The Chinese foreign minister said yesterday that the disputes over Iran’s nuclear program have entered a “new and sensitive” phase and the involved parties should remain committed to finding a diplomatic resolution and start a new round of talks right away.
