Intelligence Minister says assassins arrested

Iran’s Intelligence Minister has announced that the perpetrators of Daryoosh Rezainejad’s assassination have been arrested.

Iranian media report that Heydar Moslehi said today, on the anniversary of Rezainejad’s shooting in Tehran by unidentified assailants, that the assassins have been arrested.

Iranian media had first denied that Rezainejad was connected with Iran’s nuclear program, stating that he was an electrical engineering graduate student; however, he was later added to the list of Iranian nuclear experts killed in assassination attempts.

Moslehi said: “By reconstructing the scene of the assassination, we have concluded with certainty that the arrested individuals were involved in the assassination and that they carried out their actions with the support of the CIA and Mossad.”

The Intelligence Minister announced that more than 30 people were arrested in connection with the assassination attempts on Iranian scientists, adding that “their activities were carried out through two networks in the country and supported by various regional and global agencies.”

In the past two years, four other Iranian scientists connected with Iran’s nuclear program have been the target of assassination operations and three were killed.

Iran claims that the U.S. and Israel are behind the attacks, and in recent months the Intelligence Ministry has announced that it has destroyed the domestic networks responsible for carrying out these operations.
