Shirin Ebadi, the Iranian Nobel Peace laureate, has written to UNICEF to describe the recent travel ban imposed on the 13-year-old daughter of jailed lawyer Nasrin Sotoudeh.
Amnesty International has also issued an announcement to condemn the abuse and pressure imposed on Sotoudeh’s family.
Iranian authorities recently issued a sentence for her husband, Reza Khandan, and their daughter, banning them from foreign travel.
Ebadi claims the Islamic Republic authorities are trying to pressure the family of the jailed lawyer so that she will collaborate with the regime.
Ebadi’s letter has also been sent to Ban Ki-moon, the UN secretary general.
Sotoudeh has been sentenced to six years in jail and a 10-year ban from practicing law for her collaboration with the Defender of Human Rights in Iran. She is charged with threatening national security and propaganda against the regime.
