Iran began new round of talks with the International Atomic Energy Agency today, June 8.
The Associated Press reports that the IAEA is expected to press Iran for access to the Parchin military base.
Iran has so far refused access to the site, maintaining that the IAEA must offer sufficient justification for visiting this site, since it is not a nuclear site but a military base.
Herman Naekarts, Head of the IAEA Department of Safeguards, and Rafael Grossi, IAEA Assistant Director General for Political Affairs, will hold talks with Iran’s permanent envoy to the IAEA, Ali Asghar Soltanieh.
Some reports indicate that the Parchin military base may have been the site of some nuclear tests, and some recent satellite images indicate that the Islamic Republic may be clearing away evidence.
The IAEA talks are taking place just ahead of the nuclear talks between Iran and the world powers that are scheduled for 10 days from now in Moscow.
