Two Iranian engineers abducted in Syria by opposition forces were released yesterday and returned to Iran today.
Iranian media are reporting the release of Ahad Sohrabi and Majid Ghanbari, who had been captured by opposition forces while working on a power plant in Syria.
They were handed over to Iranian authorities in Turkey last night and returned to Iran today, Thursday.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast thanked Turkish officials for assisting in the release of the engineers and also expressed hope that the other Iranian nationals kidnapped in Syria would soon be freed as well.
Two Turkish journalists abducted two months ago while reporting in the unrest in Syria were released on May 12 with Iran’s assistance.
While Iran has remained supportive of the Beshar Assad regime, Turkey has lent its support to Syria’s opposition forces since the unrest began.
