Terrorist group in southeast dismantled: IRGC

Iran’s Revolutionary Guards Corps(IRGC) says it has destroyed “an anti-Revolutionary terrorist group” in southeastern Iran.

IRNA reports that the Qods ground forces of the IRGC have dismantled a terrorist group that had infiltrated southeastern Iran.

The IRGC says this group had recently entered Iran “guided by enemy spy agencies and terrorists groups supported by global arrogance.”

The Islamic Republic establishment refers to the West and specifically the United States as global arrogance.

The IRGC reports that it has confiscated communications equipment from the group, as well as ammunition and explosives, including grenades and explosive belts. It adds that one member of the group was killed in the operation, and two others have been detained.

In recent years, the southeastern region of Iran and the province of Sistan-Baluchistan have been the site of several violent conflicts, and the militant group Jundallah has taken responsibility for several explosions and assassinations in this area.

Jundallah is a militant Baluchi group that claims to fight for the rights of minority Baluchis and Sunnis in the region.

In March 2010, Abdolmalek Rigi, the Jundallah chief, was arrested and later hanged by the Islamic Republic.

The Ahmadinejad administration claims its has implemented a 17-fold increase in the budget for border security in the southeast regions, with an eye to building concrete walls, canals and installing barbed wire to stop terrorism and drug smuggling.
