Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi says the Islamic Republic takes every threat seriously and is prepared for worst-case scenarios.
IRNA reports that the Foreign Minister appeared on state television to address recent western threats against Iran, maintaining that the Islamic Republic was prepared for any military incursion.
In recent weeks there have been reports that Israel is preparing for a military attack on Iran, and the U.S. has repeatedly maintained that resolving Iran’s nuclear question through military action is still on the table.
Iran has assumed a policy of responding to the threats in kind. The Iranian ambassador to Moscow said at a press conference this week: “If the United States attacks Iran, Tehran has a list of locations that will be targeted. The U.S. will receive a very heavy blow in that case.”
The West claims that Iran’s nuclear program might have military aims, but Iran says its objectives are all peaceful.
Salehi maintained that the Supreme National Security Council is sending a letter to Catherine Ashton, the EU Foreign Affairs chief, in order to resume nuclear talks.
The Foreign Minister also announced that in the coming week Iran will unveil its “new nuclear achievements.”
He added that there have been continuous consultations with the Chinese and the Russians regarding the G5+1 talks, and the recent announcement that President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad will visit China is another development in the same vein.
