Iran denies connection to Al-Qaeda
Ramin Mehmanparast

Iran has denied any connection to the Al-Qaeda bombing of the U.S. embassy in Kenya, describing American allegations as another U.S. plot against Iran.

ISNA reports that Ramin Mehmanparast, a spokesman for Iran’s Foreign Ministry, said: “This baseless accusation is another concocted scenario of the United States government against Iran.”

Recently, a Washington court accused Iran of links to Al-Qaeda and involvement in the 1998 bombing of the U.S. embassy in Kenya.

At the time, an explosion in Darussalam caused the death of 11 people and wounded another 85, while another bombing at the U.S. embassy in Nairobi killed 213 people.

Most of the victims were African citizens seeking a visa at the embassy, and the U.S. government blamed Al-Qaeda for both explosions.

Mehmanparast added that when Al-Qaeda killed nine Iranian diplomats in Afghanistan in 1998, it was “clear proof that the Islamic Republic is in the right and that the U.S. allegations are unfounded.”

He added that the U.S. is trying to “cover up its own defeats and failures as well as those of the illegitimate Zionist regime in the region.”
