Iranian Intelligence Minister Heydar Moslehi says the virtual embassy launched by the U.S. for use by Iranian people is actually intended for “spying” purposes.
ISNA reports that on Sunday Moslehi said: “This is a trap and bait to pursue people in the context of espionage, and our people, especially our young, should be on guard.”
The U.S. launched the online virtual embassy with a stated mission of establishing relations between the Iranians and Americans.
The site indicates that it is not an official diplomatic delegation but describes itself as a bridge between the two peoples in the absence of direct relations.
Iran blocked the website one day after its launch.
Iranian officials have denounced the launch of the virtual embassy and condemned the U.S. for “waging a psychological war against Iran” and “attempts at espionage.”
