Iran says it has downed a U.S. drone near its eastern border.
The Fars News Agency cites an informed military source to report that a “U.S. research drone RQ-170” was targeted by Iranian military forces and is now in Iran’s possession with minimal damage.
Al-Alem, the Islamic Republic’s Arabic television network, also reported the incident, but the U.S. has yet to react.
In recent years, Iran has repeatedly accused the U.S. of sending unmanned drones over Iranian territory for spying purposes.
Last January, the Islamic Republic military announced that it had hit two U.S. drones.
