Iranian blogger arrested in Tehran
Rojin Mohammadi

Rojin Mohammadi, an Iranian blogger, was arrested in Tehran yesterday on undetermined charges.

The Human Rights Reporters Committee reports that Mohammadi, who is a medical student at the University of Manila, was arrested when she arrived at Tehran airport for a visit on November 14. She was released on bail 24 hours later but was arrested again yesterday.

The authorities have not yet announced charges against Mohammadi, who is currently being held at Evin Prison.

Reporters Without Borders has repeatedly denounced Iran’s treatment of bloggers. The group maintains that Iranian bloggers are being persecuted for expressing their opinions on the internet, with many receiving stiff sentences.

Hossein Ronaghi Maleki, another Iranian blogger, was arrested in December of 2009 and sentenced to 15 years in prison. His family says he has been subjected to severe abuse in prison and he is on the verge of complete kidney failure.
